This non-invasive procedure can safely remove your tattoo while minimising the risk of scarring or skin colour loss (hypopigmentation). When an ND YAG Q-Switched laser is pointed at a tattoo, the laser light is absorbed by the ink. This generates a photoacoustic shock wave, causing the tattoo to release heat and shatter into small pieces.

When this reaction breaks the particles, a photomechanical effect occurs. When the particles are broken down, macrophages can pick them up and transport them out of the body via the lymphatic system. A Q-Switched laser can be used to generate the photomechanical effect’s photoacoustic shock wave.
